My President's Day Spiel

President Lincoln is my favorite president of all time. He was firm when he needed to be and soft when he didn't. I look back on what he did, and see him solving many problems that I face. Granted, his were on a much more grand scale, but there are a few similarities. It's because of this I have found a lot of guidance and inspiration from his life and how he lived it.

Contrary to popular belief. Republicans are not conservatives and Democrats are not liberals. Conservatives generally support the republicans, and Liberals generally support the democrats.

We are NOT in a recession. The Italians in a movie I saw once spelled it out for me.

"Rich people have food."

It's true isn't it? The explanation was that they didn't have much when they immigrated over here, but they did have food, and therefore they were rich.

What do we have now? We have buildings, systems, and assets up the WAZOO...

In the 18th century, it was common courtesy to give a passing traveler dinner, a bed, and breakfast so the traveler could rest. It was common courtesy to ask your neighbors if they needed anything from town when you went. Since town was sometimes several hours if not days away, one family could gather all the supplies for several families, and they just took turns.

They didn't have fully paved roads stretching from ocean to ocean or from Canada to Mexico. They rode horses at 20 miles a stretch to deliver your ancestor's letters. When someone got sick, you ran to the doctor as fast as you could (if there was a doctor within 100 miles) hoping that the person you are running for doesn't die before you get back.

What do we have now? What do we have indeed?
We have roads, cell phones, internet, stores that are close, buildings a plenty, every kind of food imaginable, every kind of tool imaginable.

We are so spoiled that some of the greatest inventions in history are sold on infomercials for 29.99 No WAIT 19.99 a piece... They will even throw in an extra whipple cutter, and that's an extra 9.99 value... LMAO, no seriously, some of the greatest inventions rot away on infomercials because nobody wants to invest the money to distribute nationally. It's not that the product isn't good, it's that nobody knows what it is, and it takes a lot of money to tell everybody what it is. So it gets passed by on the shelves despite it's usefulness, and whoever invested the money to put out there loses big time.

We have so many things to be grateful for, but we aren't. We are only concerned about the things we don't have.

So why are we in a recession, oh wait, no we're not, we just think we are. Or you can take the governments official explanation that we are no longer in a recession.

FEAR!!!

Fear is the greatest of all advertising techniques. If nobody worried about the recession it wouldn't have gone as far as it did. But people panicked and hoarded their money by the masses. So prices raised so the merchants could make ends meet. (Able to meet the end or make ends Meat as if it's putting food on the table? No idea which?)

There are of course a few economical things to consider when dealing with national and international economies, but those aren't for the average citizen to worry about.

The only thing that is holding everyone back is fear. Fear of spending, fear of investing, fear of basically everything monetary.

I could keep going for a very long while, but basically, Fear SELLS... As long as the country is afraid of something, we will support the government to make changes when they promise to alleviate our fears...

Please Support the Troops!!!

Our Soldiers do what they are told even when they are told to do something that will clearly kill them. They do this because they are willing to give their lives in defense of our freedoms. That's what they signed on for.

Our soldiers are also following the orders of the people that we elected into office. Please support the troops!

Do you support the War?

You can still Support the Troops, and think that the war is wrong. They are NOT mutually exclusive.

Somehow supporting the troops translates into supporting the war. "I must support the war because my (Loved One) is fighting over there." There is that nagging feeling that if you do not support the war, then all the fighting and dying of our beloved soldiers is for NOTHING.

This is not so: Any Soldier who fights for their country is a patriot. Any Soldier who signs up to protect all you hold dear is beloved.

Supporting the war is supporting the politics behind the war. Supporting our soldiers is supporting our own family and friends. There is a difference.

I'm not asking you to support the war or not to support the war.

I'm just simply asking you to recognize the difference between supporting the war, and supporting our troops.
